What is cosmetic dentistry?
Nowadays, there’s many ways in which
your dentist can improve the appearance of teeth, giving
you a straighter, whiter, more even smile. Treatments
that are designed to improve the look of teeth are known
as cosmetic treatments and include tooth whitening,
veneers, crowns, bridges and tooth-coloured fillings.
What is a veneer?
A veneer is a thin sliver of tooth-coloured
porcelain designed to fit perfectly and discreetly over
a front tooth. They are usually used to ‘smooth
over’ cracked or chipped front teeth, or to close
small gaps between the front teeth or to cover a very
discoloured or unsightly front tooth.
How much will a veneer cost?
In some cases veneers are available on
the NHS. Please talk to your dentist, as the cost of
your veneer will depend on your individual requirements.
Can I have white fillings?
Yes. We offer tooth-coloured fillings
as an alternative to traditional silver or amalgam fillings.
Please talk to your dentist to find out more. If you
do decide to opt for a tooth-coloured filling we’ll
be able to ‘match’ your filling to the natural
shade of your teeth.
What can I do if my tooth is broken?
If you have a tooth that is badly broken
or heavily filled it’s usually possible to repair
it using a crown. A crown is effectively a replica of
the outside of your tooth made from materials such as
porcelain or gold that fits over your existing tooth
to ‘cap’ it. Please talk to your dentist
to find out more.
How much will a crown cost?
Some crowns are available on the NHS,
including tooth-coloured crowns near the front of the
mouth. Please talk to your dentist, as the cost of your
crown will depend on your individual requirements.
How can I replace missing teeth?
If you have a missing tooth, or teeth,
there’s several ways we can replace it. You may
be able to have a bridge fitted, which means the teeth
either side of the missing tooth are capped, with a
fixed false tooth replacing the missing tooth in the
middle. Alternatively, you may opt for a partial denture
or an implant. An implant is a titanium rod which is
surgically placed into the jawbone as an ‘anchor’
for fixing dentures or crowns.
How much will a bridge cost?
Some bridges are available on the NHS.
Please talk to your dentist to find out more, as the
cost will vary depending on your individual requirements.
Can I make my teeth look whiter?
Yes. Please talk to your dentist about
the tooth whitening treatments we offer.
I’m nervous about visiting
the dentist – can you help?
Yes. Our professional friendly team is
very experienced at helping anxious or nervous patients
and we’ll do everything we can to make your visit,
and any treatments, as pleasant and painless as possible.
